Flies in the Rounds Shack

(A Vietnam War story about Flies, 1971)

That was a hot afternoon within the ammo dump, inside rounds shack-consisting of two rooms, walls made out of particle board, floors or vase of long wooden boards-flat timber with regard to the most element, you may see by way of their cracks, located crooked alongside one particular another; also the shack was a smite lopsided, almost wobbly, and very broken. Planted about four by four beams beneath the floorboards, about a half foot high, numerous soft white fine sand that surrounded that, providing an playground for the lizards to engage in entertainment, unnoticed.

I transported a semi old ‘Stars and Whitening strips, ‘ magazine with me when I experienced to navigate to the rounds shack (where all of us soldiers did our paperwork for aide and distributing of ammunition for the convoys arriving from many locations within the vicinity.

450 bushmaster ammo carried that will old ‘Stars plus Strips, ‘ publication for a 30 days, until an innovative one came out, and used it to swish away from flies. These people were everywhere in the rounds shack-we were infested together, with their own buzzing around while if we have been invaders: fat and thin bellied documents; some dark other people light shads involving dark, long and short winged jigs, biting your fingers and face, and ears, behind your current neck, swarming all-around you, sneaking up your shirt sleeves, scuba diving into your sight as though they were small punishing missiles, trained by Vietcong to annoy a person. -me, us!

There have been dead or perishing flies, also walking flies on all the three desks inside the two rooms in the shack, filling typically the atmosphere with putrid debris, aiming in the direction of one’s mouth, yet quite content when they missed, and simply landed on your current lips. They polluted everything, clinging, plus climbing, as well as a few crawling, in their fastest gait possible, specially the big extra fat bellied ones, that they had try to find away but I’d swat them, sadly leaving a dumpy-bloody mess, I seriously tried out to simply scare them away, yet like I stated before-or implied, these people were already brained washed and ready to sacrifice their lifestyles for the result in.
